That's right, the gyms are gone and replaced with the Island Trial Challenge by which you have to complete a trial run by a "Captain" and face a Totem Pokemon which is boosted by an aura. I'm going to highlight a few of the key new features but not all of them (because there are lots). Set in the region of Alola (effectively the Pokemon world's Hawaii) it feels exotic and creates yet another adventure you wished you could have had has a child rather than going to school.
Pokemon Sun (& Moon) is a very beautiful and well-made Pokemon series instalment.
